Nestled in the heart of Palmetto, FL at 830 79th St. East, Thurber Farms is more than just a dog boarding facility — it’s a home away from home for your furry companions. Founded by Mandy Thurber, Thurber Farm was built on a deep love for animals and a commitment to providing dogs with a space where they feel safe, loved, and free to be themselves.

 

I’ve always had a natural connection with animals, and caring for them has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember — but my path to starting Thurber Farm wasn’t a straight one. I was born and raised in Utah until I was 20. In 2013, I joined the Marine Corps and served for four years in North Carolina. After leaving the military, I became a patrol deputy for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office here in Florida.

 

Everything changed when I broke my back. It was a wake-up call — I realized life was too short not to spend it doing something you love. And for me, that’s caring for animals. That’s when the idea for Thurber Farm really took shape.

 

I started Thurber Farm in 2019 with a few chickens then goats, then eventually added cows and a horse all of which are my pets. Over time, my passion for animals evolved into a this boarding facility where dogs could experience the same care and attention and peace I give to my own animals.

 

What makes Thurber Farms truly special is its location. We’re backed up by a 2,000-acre preserve that I take my three personal dogs to all the time. It’s quiet, peaceful, and far from the hustle and bustle — the perfect setting for a relaxed and stress-free stay. Your dog will get to enjoy that same peaceful atmosphere, with plenty of space to explore and unwind.

 

With only four kennels, we focus on giving each dog personalized care, whether they love romping around in our secure, open play areas or curling up for a quiet nap indoors. Our farm is small and secluded, ideal for dogs that thrive in a stress-free, peaceful environment.
